I think it is a little dust or dirt on his face, after running through the collapsing Katric Ark and all.

This is a lovely evocation of the irony of Spock's words to Kirk, and the pain they feel at the realisation of the truth of those words.

Nope, that's a screencap right from the movie. The scene when he beams back on board without his mother. To be fair, the freckles MIGHT be dirt. I can't remember.
